Let’s face it, no one here is getting any younger.
Don’t worry. This isn’t some pre-mid-life-crisis rant, I promise. It’s all about perspective. While “36″ sounds mature to a 19-year-old, it sounds youthful to a retiree. To me, a happily married suburban career woman and mother of two small boys, it sounds like the tick of a slightly broken clock: fast on some days, slow on others, with only the softest hint of passing time.
Even so, I don’t want to miss a moment. That’s why I decided to kick off this project—“36 X 37.” I’ve given myself 365 days to do 36 things I’ve never done, all before my 37th birthday. My first post–Maura Starts a Blog–will explain it best.

Brilliant idea! Incidentally, this week I’ve set up a Week of Project Completion, where I try to finish up a different project that’s been on the back burner for me each day of the week. I’ve been trying to get others to join, so next time I do it, I’ll drop you a line to see if you’d like to do the same for yourself. Then who knows, maybe you’ll get 7 of those 36 things on your “never done” to-do list done in a week
I just watched the Bucket List and Julie & Julia again, and now your reading your post, it feels like a definite sign! I’ll be turning 42 soon, and I need to get cracking on my own list. Thank-you for the inspiration
Hi Maura:
Just wanted to let you know I’m enjoying your blog…so glad I found you through Freshly Pressed (I had my moment the end of June – http://writerwoman61.wordpress.com/2010/07/06/my-fifteen-minutes-of-fame-lasted-only-fourteen-and-a-half/)!
I wonder if it’s okay to add you to my Blogroll? Thanks!
Wendy
What a wonderful idea! You are a great story teller, i’m having lots of fun reading your posts! Keep up the good work.
Congrats on getting Freshly Pressed today! I started a similar blog on the occasion of my 27th birthday, after a particularly bad year 26. It’s really been great to make time for these new adventures.
Enjoy the journey!
Hi, nice to meet you !
As the significant other of a blogger, I feel it is my duty to stay in the background of the blog. You know – don’t cause too much trouble, smile for pictures and support my wife’s passion for writing. As Maura passes the half way point of her 36×37 journey, I feel it is a good time to express publicly how proud I am of her and how much I respect her willingness to pursue what she loves. Maura – you are a fantastic writer and your blog has given our family a chance to go on a year long adventure.
Here’s to passing the half way point and for being the center of my universe.
Love,
GB
Hi!–I keep “seeing you around” other blogs I also enjoy…so, I thought I’d pop on over.
blessings on your day!

Ha! Isn’t that funny, Jane? I actually had the same thought over my lunchbreak today, and stopped by your blog to say hello–until I realized I was too shy to introduce myself! I’m so glad you took the first step. I’m very pleased to meet you.
it sounds like the tick of a slightly broken clock: fast on some days, slow on others, with only the softest hint of passing time. – gorgeous. nice writing throughout in fact and a pleasure to read. keep on!

I read your guest post on Amanda’s blog and I was intrigued by the 36 accomplishments by age 37.
Our lives are quite similar: I’m just a hair older than you, I’m married, have two boys (ages 8 and 5), and I also have a job that occupies a large chunk of my weeks.
I’ve bookmarked your blog because I’m eager to catch up to your journey thus far, but it’ll take some time

You test-drove a Maserati? OMG.
OK, that’s it. I am going to test drive the Z-4 and Boxster I have been dreaming of for years.
Great list and very inspiring. My list remains short and insanely ambitious, for one of my books to hit the best-seller list. People are predicting it for this one (out April 14) so we’ll see.
I love your spirit of adventure.
I like your blog. I need to start a list but most of mine would in a still waiting pattern.
Aha! Now I get the title of your blog. And I love the concept. And 36, or 37, or even more, is not old!!!
I love this! I have a friend who made a list of 24 things she wants to do before 24 and i didn’t quite get it, but you blog puts it into perspective some. Plus, looking at your list, even I feel a sense of accomplishment at what you’ve done and the level of awesomeness achieved.
I’m a bit late at “discovering” your blog and if I understand it correctly, you’ve already accomplished your 36 things?
Nonetheless, I’m thinking to create a similar list and I’ve subscribed to your blog for inspiration. I, too, avoid small talk. If I have nothing good to say, I might as well keep my mouth shut.
All the best! =)
