Pssst. It’s (Somewhat) Wordless Wednesday.
I have all kinds of pretty, vacation related photos to show you.
This makes me think of an old hair stylist who used to hand me stacks of beach-related vacation photos to sort through every time I sat in his chair. In his pictures, he was always surrounded by tan, busty women with fruity drinks and sparkly manicures. No photos of family or interesting places and things. Just Brian and his babes, with a sunset as their backdrop.
I kind of wish I could find him now and retaliate with the pictures posted below.
There are no tan, busty, sparkly women here. Instead, you’ll find some of the unexpected things we saw at Lake Hope this weekend.

I didn't expect to see a giant Civil War-era iron furnace that was used to smelt iron for us Yankees. ::mystified shrug::

Lotuses on the lake!! Gorgeous and so Zen
Why did I think lotuses were tropical flowers? Love the Smurf house
Thanks! I have to say, that smurf house was pretty awesome. It almost didn’t look real!
Ah…… Lake Hope. What a memory that brings back. When I was about 9 yrs old my parents planned our very first family summer vacation. Of course we were camping because we could hardly afford even that. We had a very exciting trip all mapped out which included actually leaving Ohio and going to other states. I don’t remember exactly which ones they were but boy were my two older brothers and I excited. However ……. shortly before the trip I got sick, had to have my appendix removed and our plans were changed. My parents were afraid to stray too far from home so we ended up camping at Lake Hope for the week. To this day, whenever I hear the words “Lake Hope” I feel a tinge of guilt for spoiling our first ever family vacation. I just can’t shake it.
Your pictures are lovely and I hope you have great memories of Lake Hope.
Oh! Mary Ann, what a funny story! When I think of great family vacations, of course I think of the White family. Maybe we always had such great trips together because of your first family vacation experience.
You should go back to Lake Hope with Eliana and Baby-to-Be when they’re old enough. I think you–and they–would love it.
that 1st picture is gorgeous! love your comment, “well, I guess I knew I’d see trees”… great pics
Hahaha–as I was taking that picture, I thought, “Why am I taking this?” I mean really. But it served as the perfect set-up for the Smurf House.
Oh…I so miss Ohio. I’m glad to have a glimpse of it in your recent posts. Gorgeous pictures!
Ohio is full of surprises – I remember that every time I visit my family. There’s so many quiet, pretty places to just take a breather.
Beautiful photos, beautiful lake! What a great place to relax and enjoy.
I love me some lily pads! They remind me of the pond in the middle of my college campus (OWU).
